I got to have a therapy cat visit at the children’s hospital this week. And they had just the right number of patients — enough so that I could give everyone quality time, but not so many that I had to rush.
As always, I started off in the lobby. First, I saw a little girl with both her lower legs in a cast. She loved seeing me! And then there were three kids with their mom. The boy was the patient, but his sisters were the ones that wanted high fives! He loved seeing me too and petted me lots. At one point all three kids surrounded me, petting me, and that was so cool! I really enjoy making several kids happy at once.
There were several patients in exam rooms to see. One quiet older boy let me sit next to him. His mother didn’t speak much English, and I don’t think he did either, but I could tell they both enjoyed visiting. The next boy was there with his family. He was sitting on the exam table, so I sat with him there and we had a nice time. My human noticed that he had a birthday bag from the clinic so she wished him a happy birthday. The last kid we saw was a cute tween girl who showed my human photos of her cat. Lots and lots of photos.
We finished up in the rehab area. We stopped to see a boy sitting in the waiting room with his dad. The dad remembered me from a lobby visit there a long time ago. The kids in rehab were very busy working on their exercises, so we went to the far end of the area. A therapist was trying to get a little girl to walk, but she wasn’t having any! She was crying loudly and clinging to her mother’s legs. Everyone was hoping that maybe I could calm her down, but even I couldn’t do it. She was too upset. I think I did help the therapist and the mom, though. And later on, we saw the mother leaving with the little girl in her arms. This time, the girl was all smiles. That’s the way it goes sometimes.
Here are some other times I visited the kids:
