#RememberMeThursday

Twelve years ago, Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center, created this special day to bring attention to all the adoptable pets that never find a forever home. Though the number of euthanasias decreases each year, more than one million pets are euthanized annually. According the the Remember Me Thursday web-site, the more awareness each of us can bring to orphan pets will result in an increase of adoptions, decrease in euthanasias as well as a decrease in puppy mill sales.

All 22 of the Kitties Blue are proud to be rescue cats. A few have been adopted from a shelter or an individual who took in a stray pregnant female. But, in most cases, they just showed up at the house and asked to live with us. If we could not accept one due to an already full house, we always found a loving home for that kitty. Believe me, if I could, I would have welcomed every last one to join the Kitties Blue crew.

Each year, I try to feature a couple of our current residents in this post. This year I have selected our two ginger boys, Cooper Murphy and Raleigh.

Cooper Murphy was a 15-month-old cat who was dumped during a snow storm. We have no idea where he originally came from, but all attempts to find his original family failed. Just look at that face. Could you ever even consider walking away from your furry family member? Of course, you wouldn’t, but regrettably cruel and callous people do it all the time. And not all kitties are as fortunate as Cooper.

Raleigh and his sister, Audrey, were feral kittens born to a stray cat that hung out in a friend’s yard. I agreed to take them in, thinking I would find homes for them. But, we all know how that goes. Within 48 hours, they had names and became permanent members of the Kitties Blue gang.

Unfortunately, Raleigh has not been easy to socialize, and after two years, is still not certain I can be trusted. But would I turn him out to defend for himself because of that? Hell no!

I know I am preaching to the choir here, but I do not know who might read this post and either decide to adopt or better yet, never abandon an animal they have sworn to care for and love for its entire life.

Be a part of the global pet adoption awareness movement by posting a photo or photos of your rescued pet(s) on your blog, Facebook, Instagram, X and/or TikTok account using #RememberMeThursday. and/or #ShineALight.

Also, do not forget to visit the Remember Me Thursday web-site. While there, please light a candle for your rescued pet(s), your angel(s), all those still waiting in shelters for their forever homes or those unfortunate animals that were euthanized while waiting for a home. They all deserve our recognition.

Thankful Thursday

Each Thursday we post about the things for which we are thankful, and what better day than this to do so.

Dad Tom and I are thankful we have been able to rescue 22 cats, and I truly hope more will be in our future; though, we are both in our seventh decade.

Dad Tom and I are always thankful that at least one of us is home when Sawyer has a seizure. That was Dad Tom yesterday.

I am particularly thankful for the law passed in Virginia earlier this year prohibiting declawing of cats.

I am thankful for all the friends I have made since starting this blog 12 years ago.

And, I am thankful for the friends who have been in life for many decades, like my friend, Mary Jane, whom I have known for 40 years.

Two senior women.

Finally, I am thankful to all those who visit and comment on our blog.

The kitties and I will be joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday blog hop. You can do the same by clicking on the badge below.

A Few Final Words

I apologize for not visiting you much, especially lately. I have been inundated with a number a very redundant appointments in preparation for my upcoming knee replacement.

If you are in the path of Helene, we’ll be praying for you. We are currently on the leading edge here in Virginia and are being dumped on. It appears this could go on for several days.

Thanks for stopping by today.
