At Home Adventure
Stinky is worried that Periwinkle will find today’s adventure boring, but he doesn’t want to leave the house. It is just too cold outside. With Periwinkle being from Florida, he’s fairly certain she will be okay with staying inside, but what they’ll be doing may not appeal to her.
As Stinky worries and paces in front of the teleportation tunnel, he hears its familiar whoosh and sprints to the opening to catch Periwinkle as she tumbles out. They share whisker kisses and paw hugs before Periwinkle asks the inevitable question, “What’s on the agenda today, Stinky? Are we going to visit an exotic locale?”
Stinky hesitates before answering. “Actually, no. We are staying home again today.” Stinky sees a pout beginning to form on Periwinkle’s face but says nothing. Instead he takes Periwinkle’s paw and leads her to the living room where his mom is waiting for them.
National Answer Your Cat’s Question Day
Mom Janet invites the tabbies to sit with her on the couch. That’s when Stinky explains the plan for today’s adventure. “Yesterday was National Answer Your Cat’s Question Day, so my mom is going to answer any questions we have about anything.” He glances at Periwinkle and sees she has a blank look on her face.
Periwinkle replies, “Well as I always say, as long as we are together, it doesn’t matter what we do. And I guess it could be fun asking your mom questions. Who gets to go first?”
“Ladies first, of course,” says Stinky.
“Okay, why don’t our “in the furs” versions, Sawyer and Noelle, have as much fun as we do?”
“Well, Periwinkle, for starters Sawyer and Noelle don’t get the opportunity to visit each other in person, and also because real cats tend to enjoy staying at home napping and not traveling like you and Stinky do.”
“Makes sense I guess,” replies Periwinkle. She then tells Stinky it is his turn.
“Why can’t I have all the treats I want?”
“That’s an easy one, Stinky. If I let you have all the treats you want, you would get too fat to fit in the teleportation tunnel, and you would no longer be able to visit Periwinkle or go on your Adventures. Let me demonstrate for you.”
“YIKES, that’s awful. Even my whiskers got fat,” shouts Stinky. Periwinkle puts both paws over her mouth to sniffle a fit of giggles. When she finally get’s control of herself, it is her turn to ask a question.
“Why can’t Stinky and I have more Adventures?”
Before Stinky’s mom can answer, Stinky blurts out, “Hey I was going to ask nearly the same thing, but I want to know why we can’t have an Adventure everyday?”
“Stinky, I like that even better…an Adventure everyday,” says Periwinkle, as the tabbies give each other a high five.
“If you two went on an Adventure everyday, they would no longer be special and soon you would run out of cool things to do. Additionally, Periwinkle’s mom and I have other responsibilities as well as impediments. Remember, if you want to share your Adventures with your friends, Mom Sharon and I have to do a lot of typing and photo editing.”
“What’s an impediment?” Periwinkle asks.
“It’s an obstacle, like the one in the photo,” replies Mom Janet.
Neither Stinky nor Periwinkle are happy with Mom Janet’s answer with regard to their Adventures but do understand the logistics are just too difficult for them to Adventure more often.
“Stinky, I have another question. Is it okay for me to ask it?” Stinky gives Periwinkle a thumbs up.
“How can we get more friends to visit us?” Periwinkle asks.
“That is a good question, Periwinkle. I need to add your graphic and the date of your next Adventure to The Cat on My Head’s sidebar, like we have for Sunday Selfies. I also will see if I can make you and Stinky your own landing page for your Adventures. The two of you need to ask your readers to tell two friends and those friends need to tell two friends and on and on about how much fun it is to tag along with you. I will try to put a photo from each Adventure on Kitties.Blue Instagram account and ask our readers to visit you on The Cat on My Head and at Friends Furever depending on which of you has planned that week’s Adventure. As you two don’t bring in any money, Mom Sharon and I can’t arrange any paid advertising for you.”
“Mom, I have an idea. You and Mom Sharon can make a puzzle each week from one of the photos of our Adventure. It seems everyone loves puzzles, and that way more people will see us on Jigsaw Planet and maybe look for our blogs,” exclaims Stinky.
“Great idea, Stinky,” says Periwinkle. “Your mom needs to make a puzzle of you being too fat to fit in the teleportation tunnel.” That gets Periwinkle a stink eye from Stinky.
“Mom, I know you have told us before, but how did you decide on our names?” asks Stinky.
“Well, long before you two existed or started having Adventures, your alter egos celebrated Meow Like a Pirate Day, and Stinky and Periwinkle were part of their pirate names. I thought those were cute names, and the rest is history.”
Snack Time
Thanks, Mom for answering our questions. Can we get a snack now?”
“Of course, I think you have some of the Kitties Blue waiting for you,” Mom Janet tells the tabbies.
“Wow, Stinky, your mom sure was right. We have quite a crowd to share our noms today. Good thing we have lots,” exclaims Periwinkle.
After snacking and visiting with Lisbeth, Astrid and Cooper Murphy, it’s time for Periwinkle to head home. The tabbies spend several minutes whisker kissing and paw hugging. With final waves, winks and blown kisses, Periwinkle enters the teleportation tunnel and with a whoosh is gone.
As usual, Stinky retires to the bedroom to nap and dream of his lovely girlfriend.
