These are just large celled foam donuts. They keep large particles like hair, bits of food, cat litter etc from entering the small pump. I rinse mine out to last longer.

These filters are the exact same filter included in original shipment of my new 360 stainless steel version of the fountain. Square cutout fits perfectly around the submersible pump. I’ll be ordering more of these in a few month.
